Rethinking Addiction: Trauma Responsive Conference

Lisa Najavits, PhD is director of Treatment Innovations; and adjunct professor, University of Massachusetts Medical School. She was on the faculty of Harvard Medical School for 25 years and a research psychologist at Veterans Affairs Boston for 12 years. Her major areas of work are addiction, trauma, development of new treatment models, and clinical trials research. She is author of over 200 professional publications and various books. Her awards include the Betty Ford Award of the Addiction Medical Education and Research Association; the Young Professional Award of the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies; the Early Career Contribution Award of the Society for Psychotherapy Research; and the Emerging Leadership Award of the American Psychological Association Committee on Women. She was president of the Society of Addiction Psychology of the American Psychological Association; and serves on various advisory boards. She is a practicing clinical psychologist and supervisor.

Steve is a psychiatric social worker and addictions counselor, with 30 years of experience working with clinically complex populations. Following 23 years of service in the public behavioral health sector as case manager, therapist, supervisor, clinical director and administrator, he currently serves as the Director of the University of Michigan’s Addiction Certificate Program as well as teaching part-time for U-M’s School of Social Work, and providing private-practice trauma and addictions counseling. A popular conference speaker and purveyor of the resource-rich Integrated Recovery website (www.integratedrecovery.org), Steve’s own lived experience of long-term dual recovery significantly informs his counseling, teaching and training efforts.

Dr. Margaret DeLillo-Storey is a Licensed Clinical Counselor/Supervisor currently working in the Perry Local School System in Stark County, Ohio. She is contributing faculty in the School of Counseling at Walden University, teaching and supervising School Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling students. A trainer contracted with the Stark County Educational Service Center, Margaret works in Trauma, Resiliency, and Education Collaboration along with a co-trainer. Margaret was trained directly by Dr. Brené Brown in the inaugural class of Certified Dare to Lead™ Facilitators in 2019. She is proud to be part of the worldwide Certified Dare to Lead™ Facilitator community helping others realize that courage is a collection of four skill sets that are teachable, measurable, and observable, and the teaching curriculum based on Dr. Brown's in-depth research and bestselling book, Dare to Lead.
